open studios is coming up!

Here is a piece I'll be showing at our open studios -- another from the birds of the world series I've been working on. This bird is a brown noddy tern, which I saw in Tahiti. We're having an open studios show opening on Friday, October 14th from 7-11, and the studio will be open on Saturday and Sunday Oct. 15th-16th. Come on by!

Excerpts from the Periodic Table of Laughter

I was commissioned by California Monthly (the UCB alumni magazine) to do an illustration for an article about a study going on in the psychology department. This project involves the categorization of different types of laughter -- as we all know, people laugh for lots of other reasons than just being genuinely amused! I wanted to do a bunch of faces laughing in different ways, and then the idea of doing a periodic table came up, which made it even more fun. Here are a few of my favorites.
